Droga & Humphrey - Grammar and Meaning
It seems to be a long time since I have had to deal with the many grammatical terms, that we use implicitly in our written and spoken communication.  Some of the basic terms take me back to my own primary years of schooling to when I learnt that a verb is a 'doing' word, and nouns 'a name for an object, person, thing, place). The grammatical structure of clauses has always unsettled me (both at school and university when I majored in English) , and even today, as I work through Droga & Humphrey, it still has the same effect. As I complete the activities, I wonder have I answered correctly...thank goodness for the examples scattered through the chapters (and for the answers at the back of the book...to let me know, yes, I am on the right track, or to identify those elements where I have difficulty, and to highlight to reflect upon).
The book is going to be a good point of reference. For the purpose of my learning log here I will include the key terms that are introduced as I work my way through the book.
